General Practitioners will begin receiving COVID-19 vaccines today to be administered to people over the age of 85, as the the third phase in the government’s vaccine rollout gets underway.

Over 80,000 people will receive the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine over the next seven days.

GP surgeries which have over 200 patients aged 70 and above will vaccinate people within the medical centre itself, while for practices with fewer than 200 people over 70 years, the vaccines will be given at GP-led Vaccination Centres.

Galway Senator Seán Kyne explained that each GP practice will register, book in and administer to their own patients from the Centre.

“For GP practices with fewer than 200 patients aged 70 or over, the practice will partner with another, larger practice to use the larger facilities. However, GP practices will still take care of their own patients,” said Senator Kyne.

Following this phase, the programme will move on to vaccinating those aged 80-84, 75-79 and 70-74.

Threshold highlights spike in cost of a room in Galway City

0
Galway Daily business Galway house prices increase 2.1%

The lack of one-bedroom accommodation, and the exodus of workers from Dublin due to COVID-19, have contributed to a major spike in rental prices in Galway housing charity Threshold has said.

The latest rental report from Daft.ie issued this week shows that rent in Galway City is up 4.6% in the past year, while county rental prices have increased 2.4%.

The average cost to rent in Galway City is now €1,370, while the average price in the county is €956.

By far the largest increase has been for people renting a single bedroom rather than a property.

In Galway City Centre the average cost of renting a room has gone up 20.9% to €469 in the past year according to Daft, while prices in the city suburbs are up 18.9%.

Western Regional Services Manager at Threshold, Karina Timothy said that this highlights the discrepancy in protections afforded for people renting a room as opposed to an apartment or house.

“Considering the decline in room prices in almost every other area and that colleges and universities are closed, this is an unexpected increase that shows again how those in rent-a-room scenarios are not afforded the same protections as other renters.

“The increase also reflects the rising demand for single rooms due to the scarce supply of one-bed accommodation for single people.”

Chairperson of Threshold, Aideen Hayden added “The report shows indications of a change in trends, but only that – not the seismic wave that’s needed for the private rented sector to become a true tenure of choice, as major issues around supply and affordability remain.”

What should a good casino offer?

0

Since the launch of the first ever online casino in 1994, the online gambling industry has been steadily growing but has recently seen a massive boom in the last few years, with technology being more and more widely available to people and access to the internet being easier than it has even been before.

With the industry blowing up so quickly and more and more online casinos being launched all the time, it can be difficult to choose the right one that is good enough, while also suiting all your needs.

Reviewing casino sites manually can be tiresome, and take up a lot of time that could be used for gambling, which is why sites like 6takarakuji exist.

All of the latest casinos are reviewed on the site, as well as what are the best welcome bonuses the casinos offer, and what the wagering requirements are, you can read more here to save yourself a lot of time, and gamble with security and peace of mind.

Unfortunately, with so many new casinos being launched all the time, there come the factor that a lot of them are fake or tend to have scamming tendencies, just trying to get what they can out of a player without returning anything back to them.

It is vitally important to know exactly what to expect from gambling online and the online casino industry. Continue reading to find out how you can find the best online casino and what a good online casino has to offer.

The best games

The best online casinos will have a wide variety of games to play, with an even wider variety of themes to choose from for each game, allowing you to specialize your experience to exactly what you enjoy. With the option to choose from either regular table games or live table games, an abundance of slots, and even lotto style games, the best online casinos will make sure that every player gets the maximum enjoyment they can from every single game that is played.

On top of just the variety of games, the games themselves, on the good online gambling sites, are of the best quality, designed by the most competent game designers in order to fully immerse the player in the game and give them the feeling of playing in a casino.

A great design

Websites can be tricky if they aren’t set up in a way that is simple and easy to navigate. All the best online gambling sites want the players to make the most of their experience and time while gambling and they do this by making their websites extremely user friendly and easy to navigate.

With the most popular games shown right as the page opens, a search bar function for the players to search for anything quickly, an uncluttered menu, and a simple but attractive design, anything on the website should be easy to find.

This also means that finding customer service information is also a simple task and not an activity of scrolling for hours just to find an invalid email.

Good customer service

While gambling and risking you money, there is always a feeling of unease or fear. This shows itself in the form of adrenaline which is probably why players keep playing. The adrenaline rush is a sensational feeling and people just can seem to get enough. However, as soon as something goes wrong and a player can’t withdraw their winnings or a game doesn’t seem to be working quite right, it falls on the casino to sort out these problems. Reliable customer support contact channels are one of the most crucial parts of a good online casinos and could mean the world of difference when it comes down to customer reviews.

A good online casino will offer many means of communication to a support team though email, social media, 24/7 live chat supports, and even telephone numbers. By offering a variety of options they show that they are serious about the customer support option and don’t intend on scamming or cheating people out of their money.

A selection of bonuses

Welcome bonuses are one of the most well know features of online casinos and gambling sites. These welcome bonuses come in the form of free money that can be used to play any game, free spins on the slots, free games, or even a combination of these. Not only do online casinos have welcome bonuses to attract players but they also have VIP and Loyalty programmes that are intended to retain regular players by also giving them decent bonuses and promotions through the year.

Gardaí remind public to be wary of ‘Romance fraud’

0
galway daily love romance fraud news gardaí scam

An Garda Síochána has warned members of the public to be aware of ‘Romance’ fraud over St. Valentine’s Weekend.

In 2020 almost 200 cases of Romance Fraud were reported to Gardaí, with both male and female victims from across all age groups.

The average amount of money lost was in excess of €20,000.

The Covid-19 Regulations and travel restrictions have resulted in reduced social gatherings and as a result is generating opportunities for fraudsters to engage in online Romance Fraud.

This particular fraud is enabled via online dating sites or other social media by fraudsters who will provide the victims with well-prepared stories designed to deceive.

The victims develop online relationships with the fraudsters, who use fake identities, photographs and life stories.

Inevitably, the fraudster will ask their victim for money. The fraudster will continue to ask for money until the victim has no more money to give or realise they are being deceived.

This crime often leaves vulnerable people with a feeling of hurt and mistrust in addition to their financial loss and in some recent cases, gardaí have seen criminals targeting people with learning difficulties.

The warning signs include the fraudster asking the victim to communicate by instant messaging, text or phone calls rather than messaging through the dating website, and the fraudster asking for money for various reasons, starting with low amounts.

In one recent case an Irish victim developed a relationship with a female from the United States of America on a dating website.

Over a period of months, for spurious reasons she asked him for money and in total the victim suffered a loss of over €21,000 (over 5 separate transactions).

Detective Chief Superintendent Pat Lordan of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau issued the following advice:

• Stop and think! Ask yourself is this person real if you are asked for money by a person with whom you are in an on-line relationship
• NEVER share personal or banking details with unknown persons online.
• NEVER receive money from, or send money to persons unknown.
• THINK twice before using a webcam (intimate images can be used for blackmail).
• TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS – if it sounds like it is too good to be true, it is probably not true.
• If IN DOUBT, talk to a family member or a friend.
• If you have been the victim of this type of crime, please report it in confidence to your local Garda station.
• If you a guardian or friend to someone with intellectual difficulties be alert to the dangers of romance fraud.

“If you are in any doubt about any symptoms you have, you should always contact your GP. Your test and GP assessment will be free of charge. This includes GP out of hours services, contact details for which are on the HSE website”.
