Eight community projects get €210,000 in LEADER funding

Eight community projects in Galway have been awarded over €210,000 in funding from the LEADER programme.

Galway West TD and Minister of State for the Gaeltacht Seán Kyne said that between €210,847.75 in grants and other local resources, there is a total €300,156 investment being made in local community projects.

“Projects include upgrade works to community centres the purchase of equipment and the maintenance and initial development of walkways,” The Fine Gael TD said.

“As Minister with responsibility for the Islands I’m encouraged by the allocation to Inis Oírr-based Comhar na nOileáin to support an international project involving islands in Ireland and Scotland.”

The ‘Smart Islands in Scotland and Ireland: Supporting Enterprises and Young People’ brings together islanders across nations to develop ways of revitalising island communities through training, events, exchange visits among other initiatives.

Minister Kyne said that the projects supported through the Leader Programme are “integral to ensuring sustainable and vibrant communities in rural Galway and across the country.”

Community development groups such as Forbairt Pobail Maigh Cuilinn, Forum Connemara, Ballinasloe Town Hall, among others are leading the projects under the Leader Rural Development Fund.
