Galway daily news COVID-19 cases more than double at UHG

The number of COVID-19 cases at University Hospital Galway has more than doubled in the past week alone, but ICU admissions are unchanged.

As of Sunday evening there were 49 confirmed cases of the disease at UHG, seven more than the previous day, and up from 21 a week prior.

At Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe there are 17 known COVID cases, which is actually three fewer than 24 hours prior, and just two more than a week ago.

Fortunately, there has not yet been a corresponding increase in ICU admissions for the virus.

These figures remain unchanged at two cases apiece in the ICU at Portiuncula Hospital, and UHG.

Nationwide there were 747 patients with COVID-19 in Irish hospitals as of 8pm Sunday, up from 593 a week before.

The number of patients in serious condition being treated in the ICU has risen from 23 to 30 in the same period.
