There have been a further 1,818 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported by the Department of Health today.

As of this morning there are 244 people in Ireland hospitalised with COVID, of whom 52 are in the ICU.

“While the vaccine programme continues, we need to allow time for the levels of immunity in the community to increase,” said Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer.

“The Delta variant spreads through close contact with others. Where possible, please continue to work from home and remember that small group meet ups in outdoor or well-ventilated indoor spaces are safer for everyone.”

In the past week alone there have been more than 12,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in the state.

Walk-in vaccination clinics will resume at Ballybrit Racecourse for three days this weekend, this time open to people receiving their 2nd or 1st dose.
