29 people with Covid in Galway hospitals on NYE

There were 29 people in Galway’s public hopsitals on New Year’s Eve as the number of people with the disease in ICU also increased.

Twenty-two of the COVID patients are receiving care at UHG while there are seven cases at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

Of those diagnosed with COVID-19 at UHG, four are in the intensive care unit, and two of the seven cases at Portiuncula Hospital are in ICU.

Tallaght Hospital has the most COVID-19 patients in the State with 55.

The Department of Health provisionally reported 23,281 further cases of COVID-19 this afternoon.

As of 8am today, 656 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised nationally, of whom 85 are in intensive care units.
