A train from Galway to Dublin has been substantially delayed this morning following a traffic incident.

Irish Rail reported that the 09:30 service from Galway to Heuston was held up at Tullamore Station for almost an hour earlier today.

This occurred after a vehicle hit a bridge on the line between Tullamore and Portarlington.

The train was forced to wait while engineers cam to inspect the bridge after the incident.

The service has since recommenced, and is operating with a delay of approximately 40 minutes.
