A status yellow weather warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Galway and much of the west and north-west of Ireland.

“Through today and tonight, falls of heavy rain will give high rainfall totals with reduced visibility and a risk of localised flooding,” the weather warning states.

The warning from Met Eireann has been issued for all of Connacht as well as Cavan, Longford, Monoghan, and Longford.

It will be in place throughout all of Sunday and last until 7am on Monday morning.

A marine warning for small craft along all Irish coasts today with south to southwest winds expected to reach force 6.

Met Eireann has also warned that “Weather conditions conducive to the spread of potato blight will develop across Ireland today and at times during this week”.
