St Vincent de Paul have launched their annual Christmas appeal, asking people in Galway to help those who are struggling this time of year.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul offer is available to help people in every community in Galway, on a strictly confidential basis.

Volunteers from the charity are always ready to offer support and friendship to anybody having difficulty dealing with the assorted challenges life throws at us.

These could mean trying to meet bills, pay for education, deal with illness, support family members, address mental health problems, family breakdown, addiction issues, loneliness and so on.

On top of home visits, the SVP Resource Centre in Croí na Gaillimhe, Mill St is open every day for services to vulnerable individuals and groups.

This can be used as a home away from home for lunch clubs, homework clubs, intergenerational activities, language classes etc., and offers a great social hub in the middle of the city.

“This year is particularly difficult due to rising prices, especially of food and energy and increasing inflation,” Seamus McManus, SVP Galway Area President said.

“We hope that you, the members of the community here in Galway will once again rise to the challenge and give what you can to help those of our fellow citizens who badly need support this winter.”

“We promise that our volunteers will do their very best to see your donation is well spent.”

“The Society wishes to assure people feeling anxious and alone that there is hope. Due to the continuing generosity of many people and many businesses, the people supporting our shops, and to fundraising students in the University and in some Secondary Schools, we can help.”

“Thanks to everyone – fundraisers, donors, volunteers and staff – for the support you give to your community through SVP; your efforts make a real difference to many families throughout the year but especially at Christmas.”
