Plans submitted for €5 million sports centre of excellence in Oranmore

Plans have been submitted for the construction of a €5 million sports centre of excellence in Renville, Oranmore.

The new Renville Sports Grounds would be an expansion to the existing sports facilities at Renville Park and Renville West.

The planning application submitted with Galway county council contains plans for a wide array of sports and recreation amenities.

The 34 acre site will include three natural playing pitches, and a synthetic surface, all-weather pitch.

The pitches will have a retractable netting system 30m long and 15m high behind each goal.

A covered terrace is for seating is included in the plans for one of the natural surface pitches.

And the development will also include a public playground with associated equipment and a looped walkway connecting the site with existing facilities at Renville West.

Other site works will include three warm up areas, six sets of 21m high floodlights, a machinery building, and a toilet block.

The multi-million euro sports facility will be served by 248 car parking space, 8 coach spaces and provision for internal access roads.

The planning application is being submitted by the Renville Sports Project Committee, on behalf of Oranmore Maree GAA Club.

Anyone who has a submission they would like to make regarding the proposed development can do so up until November 14.

A decision is due from Galway County Council on whether to allow this project to go ahead by December 5.
