Multiple power outages have left more than 7,500 homes and businesses in Galway without electricity this morning amid Storm Brendan.

Heavy winds are sweeping across Galway today, causing multiple power outages which have left homes in many areas without electricity.

The largest outage is the Recess area where one outage is affecting the electricity supply to 5,885 properties.

Another fault in Claregalway has caused a power outage to 1,561 properties, while smaller outages in Tuam and Carraroe have left roughly 30 properties without power in each location.

No estimated time of repair has been given by the ESB for these faults as of yet.

Galway is under a Status Orange weather warning until 9pm tonight which is bringing sustained winds of 80km/hr and gusts of up to 130km/hr.

Motorists are advised to take extreme car on the roads today and keep an eye out for wind blown debris.
