More time is being sought to build a mixed use development on the Tuam Road, comprising a restaurant and apartments.

Amber Rock Ltd is seeking an extension of planning permission for the demolition of the Galway Plate Restaurant, and its replacement with a three storey development.

This will consist of a replacement restaurant on the ground floor, with 4 three-bedroom apartments to be located on the first and second floors.

Other works will involve revised parking arrangement, including closing the existing vehicle entrance at the north east of the site.

Planning permission for the development was originally granted in November of 2016, and is due to expire next month.

No work has taken place on site yet due to “economic downturn and COVID” the EOD application states.

The developer is seeking a five year extension of the current planning permission.

Galway City Council is due to make a decision on this application by November 16.
