An additional five years has been granted by the county council for the construction of a crematorium in Ballinasloe.

BKT Construction Kevin Tuohy had been granted planning permission for the crematorium at Garbally Demense, Ballinasloe in 2014.

However work didn’t move forward at the time due to the “recession and continuing financial constraints” according to the developer.

The development consists of a single storey crematorium building with a reflection room, ceremony room and cremator.

A memorial garden will accompany the facility with a memorial wall, ponds, and walkways.

The extension of duration order grants an additional five years to the planning permission previously granted.

Work is currently expected to commence this July according to the developer, and be completed by October 2020.

The county council unconditionally granted an extension of duration to the planning permission.
