Galwegians interested in joining An Garda Síochána have been urged to consider applying during this year’s recruitment campaign which was launched recently.

East Galway TD Ciaran Cannon said that a career as a Garda is hugely rewarding and every day members make a vital contribution to the safety and well-being of their communities.

The Minister also welcomed a new decision which will allow members to make small changes to the Garda uniform for religious or ethnic reasons.

Minister Cannon said: “The mission of An Garda Síochána is to protect and serve, and I encourage all those in Galway interested in supporting that mission, to consider applying.”

Commenting on the decision to allow changes to the Garda uniform, the Fine Gael TD added: “I am also very pleased with Minister Flanagan`s invitation to members of new and minority communities to consider a career in An Garda Síochána and I welcome the Commissioner’s decision to facilitate alterations to the Garda uniform on request to accommodate religious and ethnic diversity.

“An Garda Síochána is there to serve all members of our society so it is important for it to reflect the welcome and increasing diversity of Irish life.”
