Galway Daily news Lough Derg RNLI rescue two people after boat strikes rocks

The Galway RNLI Lifeboat today rescued a man who became trapped by the rising tide at Ballyloughane beach and had to shelter on an island.

The man was walking on the beach this morning, and took refuge on Hare Island after being caught by the tide at approximately 11am.

A member of the public spotted he was in difficulty and contacted the Coast Guard for help.

The Galway Lifeboat launched a few minutes later, and brought the man to safety back at the docks.

Mike Swan, Galway Lifeboat Launch Authority, urges the public to be aware of the tide times and to take extra care when out walking any of the coastal areas around the bay so as not to get caught out.
