Galway RNLI Lifeboat were called to help in the recovery of a 32-foot yacht at Renville, Oranmore yesterday evening after the boat broke its moorings in windy conditions.

The Irish Coast Guard called for Galway Lifeboat to assist at around 5.40pm and the Lifeboat crew launched a short time later from Galway Docks.

Members of the Galway Bay Sailing Club were towing the boat to safety when the Lifeboat arrived at the scene. Nobody was injured in the incident and the yacht was undamaged.

Galway Lifeboat DLA Mike Cummins has urged boat owners to make sure all vessel moorings are secure as weather conditions have been so changeable over the past few days.

The Lifeboat volunteer crew on the callout were Brian Niland (Helm), Dave Oliver, David McGrath and James Rhattigan.
