Fresh weather warning issued for Galway

A fresh weather warning has been issued for Galway and twelve other counties for this weekend.

A status yellow weather warning has been issued by Met Eireann from late Saturday and into Sunday morning with gusts of up to 110km/hr expected.

Strong northwest winds are expected to develop later into Saturday, starting on the Atlantic seaboard and spreading to other coastal counties overnight.

Galway can expect sustained winds of 55 to 65 km/hr with the gusts reaching 90 to 110 km/hr.

In coastal areas Met Eireann warns that the worst winds may exceed those predictions.

The weather warning applies from 8pm this Saturday to 9am the following Sunday morning.

Aside from Galway, the affected counties are Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford

The forecast for Saturday warns of heavy showers, with a risk of hail and thunder according to Met Eireann.

Going into next week the cold snap will return, with current predictions saying that hail and sleet can be expected on Tuesday, with some showers of snow as well.
