Number of Covid patients in Galway hospitals rises to 88

University Hospital Galway now has 82 confirmed cases of Covid-19 according to the latest data from the HSE.

Seven Covid patients at the hospital are in ICU, the same number as yesterday.

There are currently seven people with the disease at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, but none of the confirmed cases there are in the critical care unit.

GUH has three adult ICU beds available and 17 general beds, while Portiuncula is operating beyond its capacity with no beds available as of 8.00 pm yesterday.

The Department of Health reported a further 220 cases in Galway yesterday evening – the highest number of cases reported since the beginning of the pandemic.
