Decline in COVID-19 hospitalisations in Galway

There has been a significant decrease in the number of people hospitalised with COVID-19 in Galway according to the latest HSE figures.

The latest data as of 8pm on Wednesday shows just 16 confirmed cases of COVID-19 between UHG and Portiuncula Hospitals, down from 20 the day before.

There are 12 confirmed cases at University Hospital Galway, and a further four known cases at Portiuncula in Ballinasloe. Two of the hospitalisations at UHG occurred in the 24 hours prior to this.

In addition, there are just three suspected cases in Galway’s hospitals, two at Portiuncula and only one at UHG.

There are three COVID patients in Intensive Care Units in Galway, with two in University Hospital Galway’s ICU, and one in Portiuncula. There are no suspected cases in Intensive Care here.

Nationwide, Wednesday night’s figures show 298 confirmed cases in hospital in Ireland, along with 109 suspected cases.

There are 40 confirmed and 8 suspected cases in Intensive Care Units around the country.

Yesterday saw 36 fresh confirmed cases reported in Galway, as the number of daily cases has fluctuated greatly in recent day between figures in the 20s and 30s, and two days in the past week which were in the single digits.
