Galway Community Pride has invited people to attend its AGM this Friday at 7pm in Conradh na Gaeilge on Dominick Street.

The meeting will see a reporting of the year’s activities as well as the election of a new committee.

Local LGBT+ Resource Group AMACH LGBT+ will also provide a summary of their past year in supporting the community.

Chair of Pride Owen Hanley encouraged those interested to take part. He urged everyone to attend, whether they would like to be a member of Pride 2022 committee, a volunteer, or just have a passion for the LGBT+ community.

“It’s always a very supportive atmosphere and we all share a common goal of building a brighter future for LGBT+ people in Galway,” he said.

Since the last AGM Galway Pride has celebrated a successful Pride week in August and it’s second Winter Pride last December.

The community had also faced challenges with the closure of the LGBT+ Resource Centre Teach Solais on Merchant’s Road.

“The LGBT+ community has a chance to reconnect as public health restrictions ease to build a movement that highlights the joy in our community and fights for rights and dignitities still to be achieved,” added Cllr Hanley.

“Pride is a celebration of the entire LGBTQIA+ community with a cause for over 30 years in Galway and also needs new people, new ideas, and new energy.”
