A Status Yellow weather warning for snow, hail and icy conditions is now in effect in Galway, with two alerts for the west carrying through to Sunday afternoon.

Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick have been issued with a Snow/Ice warning by Met Eireann which is in place this afternoon from 2pm to 6pm.

“Wintry showers moving in this afternoon and evening with some falls of hail, sleet and snow. Icy and hazardous conditions,” the alert states.

However, things aren’t expected to pick up tonight, as immediately as that weather warning expires, a similar for all of Ireland will be in place.

The weather alert forecasts “falls of hail, sleet and snow. Icy and hazardous conditions” tonight, and will be in place until midday Sunday.

Temperatures in Galway are expected to hit -1 degrees in parts of Galway tonight, with the coldest temperatures inland.

Even at the coast, temperatures will be hovering around 0 degrees overnight Met Eireann has said.
