Motorists are being warned that Clifden is impassable this evening due to heavy snow on roads around the town.

The snow is affecting a number of routes around Clifden, including the N59.

Road users are being asked to take extreme caution on routes around the town this evening.

A Status Yellow weather warning for snow, hail and icy conditions is currently in place in Galway.

Met Éireann has warned of wintry showers this evening and overnight with some falls of hail, sleet and snow, as well as icy and hazardous conditions.

Temperatures in Galway are expected to hit -1 degrees in parts of Galway tonight, with the coldest temperatures inland.

AA Roadwatch reminded motorists that it can take up to ten times longer to stop a vehicle on icy roads.
