Glenamaddy/Williamstown Ladies GAA

Intermediate Shield Final has been fixed for Sunday at 3 o’clock.  Venue to be confirmed.

Hard luck to our U14 girls and management team who lost out to Naomh Mhuire by the narrowest of margins. This was a closely fought contest from start to finish and we complement our players and management for their huge effort put in not only on this occasion but throughout the full season.

The girls and their management team of Kenneth Comer, Nuala & Stephen Neary and Tina Caulfield have put their heart and souls into training and each game and our club are so proud of you all.

Thanks to the parents and supporters and a special word of thanks to our main sponsor PJ, Mary Fahy & Family & ECC for everything they do for our club.

Our club hosted the U17 Challoner Trophies development blitz on Sunday last 14th Oct in Glenamaddy. GAA pitch. The prize on offer for the winners was a cup aptly named in honour of Keith Davis who was very involved in Glenamaddy/Williamstown ladies football club.

The cup was kindly sponsored by Challoner trophies.  Three regional teams took part Shamrock Gaels, Eastern Harps and Northern Stars. The three teams were a credit to their clubs and their management and their footballing skills were appreciated by all in attendance.

It was fitting that the inaugural competition was won by the Eastern Harps regional team which involved players from Glenamaddy/Williamstown Club.

Mary Davis on behalf of her husband Kenneth, daughters Leanne and Kathlynn thanked all who had made this day possible, Galway Ladies county board, Geraldine Heverin, Challoner Trophies, the players and all in attendance, the management teams, the referees, and especially Glenamaddy/Williamstown Ladies Club for their preparation and attention to detail on the day.

Kilkerrin United

Kilkerrin United drew 2-2 with neighbours Shiven Rovers in Kilkerrin on Friday night but it was certainly a case of two points dropped by the home side. Kilkerrin dominated the early exchanges but couldn’t find the opening score.

In fact, it was the visitors who came closest after 20 minutes following a quick counter attack. Despite being reduced to ten players, Shiven Rovers took the lead as a corner kick was headed to the net late in the first half.

Kilkerrin regrouped at the interval and should have levelled the game early in the second half but the Shiven keeper pulled of some exceptional saves including one from a penalty kick.

Kilkerrin finally got back on terms with 20 minutes left when Aidan Kitt latched onto a Kevin Traynor pass and finished powerfully to the net. Try as they might, Kilkerrin couldn’t force a winner as Shiven held on for a share of the spoils. Next fixture is away to Ballymoe FC on Sunday at 11am.

Well done to all of the Kilkerrin United girls’ teams that played at the MWGL Finals day at Shiven Rovers Grounds on Saturday. Congratulations to the U12 girls who won the Cup and to all involved in winning the Mid-Western Girls League club of the year award.

Hard luck to the U10 & U14 girls who finished as runners-up in their respective competitions.

Congratulations also to the U11 boys who defeated Ballinagare FC 3-1 in Sunday’s RDYSL Shield Final at Lecarrow.

Despite going a goal down early on, Kilkerrin played the better football in the first half and were rewarded when Joe Mullin equalised following good approach play from the energetic Enda Keane & Dara Fahy.

Inspirational captain, Shayne Gordon pulled off some great saves in goal to keep the scores level until half time. Kilkerrin started the second half brightly with Darragh Kilmartin & Finn Hargadon commanding at the back.

Enda Keane gave Kilkerrin the lead after another good move involving Tomás Lee & Joe Mullin. Luke Walsh extended Kilkerrin’s lead with ten minutes remaining with a fine left foot finish.

Ballinagare tried everything to get back into the game but with Cathal Lee working tirelessly to hold up the ball and to close them down, they could not manage to create the chances needed and Kilkerrin held on for victory. Well done to all the players & management.

Last week’s RDFL Lotto numbers were 2, 6, 7 & 18. There was no jackpot winner. 4 match 3 winners: Moore United; Cam Celtic; Michael & Michelle Hughes, c/o Kilkerrin United; Mary Corrigan, c/o CP Ajax. Next week’s draw is for a jackpot of €15,000.

Best wishes to Cillian Halvey and his companions on their Australian adventure. Bon Voyage!!!
