GALWAY GAA – “The Win Was Based on Work Rate” – DONAL O FATHARTA

Galway were emphatic winners over Roscommon on Friday (4th May) evening as they kicked off their defence of the Connacht Minor Football Championship with a 4-18 to 0-8 victory in Tuam Stadium.

Even with a new under 17 format and a two year difference from the Class of 2017, the Tribesmen looked as hungry as their predecessors as they took advantage of two first half goals to run out 22-point winners.

Matthew Cooley and Aidan Halloran got two green flags each as Roscommonn’s challenge faded and gave Galway the perfect start in the round-robin format.

Manager Donal O Fatharta felt the resulted reflected Galway’s effort but not Roscommon’s who he feels are a much better team than the score line suggested.  He chatted to Galway Daily after the final whistle.

Galway meet Sligo on Friday, 11th May in their second fixture of the 2018 Connacht Minor Football Championship.  Throw-in in Markievicz Park is at 7pm.
