Former Galway captain Gary O’Donnell has announced that he is retiring from inter-county football.

The Gort native has played for Galway for more than a decade now, since first joining in 2016.

He captained the senior football team in 2016 when they claimed the Connacht title by triumphing over Roscommon.

O’Donnell said on facebook “Time has come to call it a day with Galway GAA. Lived it an loved it all. So many to thank but I will get to you all in time. Life goes on. Gaillimh go deo.”

Though he grew up in Gort, the defender plays with the Tuam Stars at the club level.

Tuam Stars posted on Facebook “Best wishes to our club man Gary O’Donnell who has done us and the County proud for many years.”
