Talented young Galwegians win Texaco Awards

Six Galway students have been presented with top awards in this year’s 65th Texaco Children’s Art Competition.

Lauren Dolphin (18), a pupil at Saint Raphael’s College, Loughrea, won second prize in the 16-18 years age category of the Competition.

Chairman of the judging panel, Professor Gary Granville and James Twohig, Director Ireland Operations at Valero presented her with the award.

Another top Galway winner who received her prize at a ceremony held in Enfield recently was Emma Harris (17), a pupil at St. Brigid’s College, Loughrea, who won third prize in the 16-18 years age category.

Other winners from Galway, all of whom received Special Merit Awards, were: Melissa Shiel (14), from Calasanctius College, Oranmore; Grace Burke (12), from Gaelscoil Iarfhlatha, Tuaim; Learaí O’Gradaigh (8), from Inverin and Jonas Whyte (8), from Tuam Educate Together National School.
