A Status Orange weather warning for high warning has been issued for Galway ahead Storm of Storm Atiyah battering Ireland this weekend.

The Status Orange weather warning applies to Galway and seven other counties on the west coast, while the rest of Ireland is covered by a Status Yellow warning.

“Storm Atiyah will track between Iceland and Ireland on Sunday generating a swathe of very strong winds across the country,” Met Eireann has said.

“Southwesterly winds later veering northwesterly will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/h with gusts from 110 to 130km/h.”

“Due to a combination of high seas and storm surge there is a possibility of coastal flooding,” the weather warning states.

It will be in place from 9am on Sunday until 6am the following morning.
