Sinn Féin are planning to host events multiple events commemorating the Easter Rising in Galway over the coming weekend.
The party’s main Easter Commemoration will take place in Eyre Square, at the Liam Mellows Statue, starting from 3pm on Easter Saturday.
A number of wreath laying events will also take place from Thursday, April 14 through to Monday, April 18 in Oranmore, Athenry, Loughrea, Clifden, Tullycross, Ballinasloe, and Caherlistrane.
Other Easter Rising commemoration events will also take place in towns, villages, and cemetery’s across the county.
“Easter is a special time for Irish Republicans, and County Galway was one of the principal areas that rose in 1916 in defence of the Irish Republic,” a spokesperson for the party said.
Sinn Féin has always honoured the men and women who sacrificied all in pursuit of freedom and a Sovereign Independent Irish Republic.”
“Even during Covid restrictions, commemorations were organised online. This year we are pleased and proud to hold a series of physical commemorations at Easter once again.”
