Road reopens after fatal Connemara traffic collision

The road between Spiddal and Inverin has reopened this afternoon following a fatal road traffic collision last night.

A motorcyclist was killed following a two vehicle collision on the R336 between the two villages shortly after 8pm on Saturday.

The motorcylist, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene while the occupants of the car a man and woman in their 20s were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The R336 was closed overnight to preserve the scene until a forensic examination could be carried out this morning.

Long delays were reported on the road as diversions were in place to direct traffic around the affected area. The road has since reopened to traffic.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling on the R336, between Inverin and Spiddal, from 7:30pm – 8:30pm this evening, who may have camera footage (including dash cam), is asked to make it available to Gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514 720, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
