Road re-opens after fatal crash near Ballinasloe

The Laurencetown to Ballinasloe road has re-opened this morning after a fatal crash.

A man in his 70s lost his life in a fatal car crash that took place at roughly 8:30pm on Tuesday.

The man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was killed when he struck a wall at Sycamore Hill.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and brought to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination will take place.

A section of the R335 was closed overnight and this morning as Gardaí awaited enough light to carry out an examination of the scene.

The road has now fully re-opened to traffic.

Gardaí are asking for anyone who witnessed the accident of who may have been on that road around the time in question to contact Ballinasloe Garda Station on 090 963 1890, The Garda Confidential telephone Line on 1800 66 111 or any Garda Station.
