Galway Daily news Public information event today for Clifden Flood Relief Scheme

A public information event on the Clifden Flood Relief Scheme will take place later today.

The county council is inviting the public and Clifden stakeholders to submit feedback on what the scheme needs.

The event will take place at the Station House Hotel from 1p to 7pm today.

Feedback can be given directly to project representatives, or through forms which will be provided at the event.

Clifden has repeatedly been affected by heavy flooding in recent years, with the most notable recent events occurring in September of 2020, when heavy rain caused the Owenglen River to burst its banks.

Jacobs Engineering Ireland have been appointed by the county council and OPW to devise a flood relief scheme for Clifden.

The project is currently at Stage 1: Scheme Assessment, Development, and Design.
