Galway Daily news Plans refused for Loughrea apartment building

Galway County Council has refused planning permission for the construction of an apartment building in Loughrea town centre due to parking issues.

Plans were submitted by T. W. Trustees for a two storey apartment building on a vacant site on Barrack Street, Loughrea.

The building would have contained 4 two-bedroom apartments and 2 three-bedroom apartments, with pedestrian access from Barrack Street.

In refusing planning permission, the county council cited the impact that this project would have on the public road.

The council said that there would be a “significant and excessive” loss of on street parking, and alterations required the footpath, in order to create access to the site.

The council also said that based on the information submitted, that it wasn’t satisfied that the site isn’t at risk of flooding, or that the development wouldn’t affect protected environmental sites.
