A special online remembrance event will take place in December to mark the ‘lighting up’ of the Galway Memorial Tree at Galway Hospice.

The Virtual Tree of Lights Celebration will be broadcast online at 5pm on Sunday 6 December and people are invited to view the event and sponsor a light.

Hosted by journalist and broadcaster Tom Gilmore, the festive event features special guest Dáithí Ó Sé and music from Marc Roberts, Johnny Carroll and Rachel Goode and choir singing.

Now in its seventh year, the lighting up of the Galway Memorial Tree at the hospice is an opportunity to remember and celebrate loved ones together at Christmas.

“Covid-19 means that we can’t all celebrate the switching on of the Galway Memorial Tree at Galway Hospice in person this year, but we can all join together to watch the celebration online,” explained Director of Fundraising and Communications at Galway Hospice, Charlene Hurley.

“Each light on the Galway Memorial Tree is a tribute to someone much loved and missed.

“Sponsoring a light on the tree is a wonderful way to remember loved ones at Christmas and also helps Galway Hospice to continue its care for patients and their families.”
