One dead, four injured following horrific car crash

One man has died, and four others have been injured following a horrific crash in the west of Ireland yesterday evening.

Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of a two car collision outside of Castlebar, Co. Mayo on Monday evening.

The crash occurred on the N60 at Breaffy at approximately 5:40pm yesterday evening.

A passenger from one of these vehicles, a man aged in his 30s, received fatal injuries and later passed away.

His body was removed to the local mortuary and a post-mortem will take place in due course.

Four other people, three men znd one woman, were taken to Mayo General Hospital for treatment after the crash.

A statement from An Garda Síochána says that their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed overnight, and remains closed this morning so that a technical examination of the scene may take place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward and contact them.

Gardaí are also appealing to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N60 Castlebar to Claremorris Road at this time, to make this footage available to them.
