There has been no increase in the number of people with Covid-19 at Galway hospitals since Thursday, according to the latest data from the HSE.

There are currently ten confirmed cases at University Hospital Galway and there are two people with the disease in Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

At UHG, there are also seven suspected cases, and there are two additional suspected cases at Portiuncula. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Galway hospitals last Sunday was just two.

None of the twelve people in hospital who have tested positive for the virus are in ICU.

Over 100 new cases were confirmed in Galway yesterday and 1,276 were reported across the State.

Manager of Galway University Hospitals Chris Kane said that as the number of Covid cases  increase Galway, it is very likely that this will result in more people being hospitalised and needing ICU care.

“While we have managed over the last number of months to resume planned patient procedures and clinics that had been deferred before the summer, maintaining these will become increasingly difficult as the number of COVID-19 positive patients in the hospital increase,” she said.
