Gardaí in Ballinasloe have arrested a man after three people received stabbing injuries from an altercation which took place yesterday evening.

The stabbing incident took place at approximately 7pm in Brackernagh, Ballinasloe on Sunday when a fight broke out between four young men.

Three men, all aged in their 20s, received stab wounds during the course of the altercation.

All three attended at Portiuncula Hospital for treatment. Two remain in hospital, where they are receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

One person, a 20 year old man, has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being detained at Ballinasloe Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A garda spokesperson said that all four of the young men were known to each other.

Gardaí have said that they are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident, but are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
