A man is being treated at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin following a serious assault at Eyre Square at around 8.45pm yesterday evening.
The man aged in his 30s was taken to Beaumont where his condition is currently described as stable.
The scene is currently preserved for technical examination and no arrests have been made at this stage of this ongoing investigation.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Eyre Square area between 8pm and 9pm on Wednesday, 12 October, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
