Step testing to check for leaks in the water system will cause disruption to many areas on the West side of Galway city throughout this week.

Today Irish Water is carrying out step testing at Devon Park in Salthill until 4pm this afternoon.

Residents in the area may experience disruptions to their water supply while this is underway.

Tomorrow, more leak testing is scheduled for Whitestrand Park in the Claddagh between 9am and 4pm.

On Wednesday, October 10 further tests will be carried out at Grattan Park and Moycullen outside the city between the hours of 9am and 4pm.

Testing being carried out on Thursday, October 11 will affect areas of the city including Beach Avenue, Devon Park, Grattan Road, Kingshill Apartments, and Salthill Road Upper.

The tests will be carried between 9am and 4pm, causing water supply disruptions.

On Friday, October 12 customers in the area of the Ballymoneen road, Devon Gardens, Monteray Court, Quincentennial Drive and Upper Salthill may experience supply disruptions from 9am to 4pm.

Step testing is a method detecting leaks in the mains system by dividing the network into zones and closing off valves, then measuring the drop in flow.

A disproportionate drop in one area would indicate there’s a leak in the network.
