The award winning animation and live action Telegael studio in Galway has found a new international partner in India’s Toonz Media Group.

Toonz Media has bought a majority share in the Emmy award winning production house based out in Spiddal, with which they are already co-producing CG comedy series Mondo Yan.

Estblished in 1998, Telegael has produced animated and live action content for some of the biggest names in global broadcasting including ZDF, Disney, Discovery Kids, France Television, Super-RTL, KIKA, BBC, Nickelodeon, PBS Sprout and Cartoon Network.

It employs over 350 staff including full-time and contract workers, who have worked to produce more than 1,000 hours of television which been distributed in 150 territories and translated into more than 40 languages.

Toonz Media employs more than 400 people in India in its live action and animations studios and works on international distribution and co-production with partners worldwide through its Spanish based subsidiary Imira Entertainment.

Paul Cummins, CEO of Telegael said this deal would enable them to “further grow our IP and service production by becoming part of a dynamic global entertainment group”.

He added that they would benefit from working with a company which has experience working in 2D & 3D animation, VFX, global distribution and financing, as well as licencing and merchandising.

“The deal offers substantial synergies and the opportunity to be part of a large vertically integrated global entertainment group.”

Toonz has said that this will significantly increase their European production capacity and expand that market for them.
