Planning permission is being sought for a residential development of 99 houses and apartments on the north outskirts of Galway City.

K King Construction has submitted plans to the city council for 43 terraced houses, and 56 apartments on the Tuam Road in Castlegar.

The 2.4ha greenfield site is one the north west side of the N83, approximately one kilometre from the junction with Bothar na dTreabh.

The houses in this development will be a mix of two storey terraced houses, from two-bed to four-bed in size.

The apartments will be a mix of 24 one-bed and 32 two-bed units in two blocks, each four storeys tall and with undercroft areas.

The two blocks of apartments will be located at the front of the estate, facing onto the road, with communal green space between them and the houses.

The estate will have a total of 143 car parking spaces, which breaks down into 136 spaces for residents, and seven for the creche which is also part of the development.

A new access point off the N83 Tuam Road will be created to serve the estate, with a footpath built along the road to the southwest.

The estate will also have three children’s play areas, one of which will be enclosed for younger kids.

Galway City Council is due to make a decision on this planning application by July 4 of this year.
