Heavy overcrowding continues at UHG with 57 on trolleys

A week of heavy overcrowding at University Hospital Galway continues unabated as it is the second most overcrowded in the country for the fourth day this week.

There were 57 patients admitted to University Hospital Galway with no beds available according to INMO figures.

In the emergency department at UHG there are 45 patients on trolleys, and another 12 without beds in the wards.

At Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, there were two patients on trolleys in the emergency department this morning.

On Thursday evening UHG reported heavy pressure on bed availability, with more than 150 people presenting at the emergency department by 5pm.

Nationwide the INMO reports 459 patients on trolleys in Irish hospitals as of Friday morning.

The worst affected hospital is UH Limerick (96), followed by UHG (57), Cork University Hospital (56), and the Mater (33).
