UHG is the most overcrowded hospital in the country again today, with almost 60 patients waiting on trolleys.
Figures from the INMO’s Trolley/Ward Watch show 55 patients on trolleys in the emergency department today, and another four in the wards.
At Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe there are a further three people without beds, two in the ED and one in the wards.
Nationwide there are a total of 470 people admitted to Irish hospitals who are without a bed today.
The worst affected after University Hospital Galway are Cork UH (49), UH Limerick (46), and Sligo University Hospital (35).
The number of COVID-19 patients at UHG has also declined in recent days, from a peak of around 50, down to 29 on Monday evening.
At Portiuncula there are six confirmed COVID-19 cases, and just one of these patients is in the ICU at each hospital.
