Gardaí appeal for witnesses after pipe bomb components found at Castledaly

Gardaí are appealing for information in connection with the discovery of ammunition and what is now believed to be components of a pipe bomb in south Galway.

Two boxes of ammunition, and the pipe bomb components, were found during a search of woodlands at Scalp Hill, Castledaly on Tuesday.

Members of the Defence Forces Ordnance Disposal Unit were called to the scene at the time and made safe the device.

Gardaí in Loughrea and Gort are investigating and are aware this location is a popular hill walking location.

They are appealing to the public who may have been in this area recently and who may have information to make contact with them.
