Rail travel between Galway and Dublin is being disrupted this morning due signal failures.

Irish rail had to cancel all traffic in and out of Heuston station earlier this morning due to a failure in the signalling system.

Intercity services have now resumed with the Galway and Westport lines the last to come back online.

However passengers are being advised to expect delays of up to 50 minutes on any trips to Dublin this morning.

Replacement bus services could be not be provided during the worst of the cancellations this morning due to the large volume of passengers affected Irish Rail have said.

Engineers have been working this morning to implement a manual signalling system to get traffic moving again.
