Fresh power outages across east Galway have left 1,700 homes and businesses without electricity this evening.

Earlier today the ESB reported two power outages in the Athenry area that resulted in a loss of electricity for almost 2,000 properties.

While the larger fault in Athenry affecting over 1,500 properties was repaired earlier this afternoon, there are still 214 homes and businesses as a result of the other.

Three new outages have also occurred in Loughrea and Creagh this afternoon leaving another 1,500 buildings in the dark.

The largest of those is in Loughrea, where a fault that occurred at 4:50pm has resulted in a loss of electricity for 1,359 local residents.

Two more outages in the Creagh area are also affecting the power supply to a total of 123 properties.

These faults are expected to be repaired by 9pm tonight according to the ESB.
