University Hospital Galway recently received a €5,000 donation in memory of a former patient to help families of people attending hospital.

A generous donation of over €5,000 was recently presented to the Patient Comfort Fund, Claddagh ward at UHG in memory of the late Darragh Frain from Renmore.

The cheque was presented to the Patient Comfort Fund by Tomas Frain (brother of Darragh Frain) and friends Colin Canny and David Henry.

The funds were raised from friends and supporters of the annual GMIT v St James GAA memorial match and the inaugural Darragh Frain Memorial Ball in Galway.

This fundraising was undertaken by the group in appreciation of the care Darragh received while he was a patient in UHG.

Deirdre O’Halloran, Clinical Nurse Manager, Claddagh Ward expressed her gratitude and said, “We are delighted to receive this donation for the Patient Comfort Fund.”

“This donation will enable us to purchase sofa beds for patient rooms where family members will be able to stay over in the room with their loved ones.”
