The number of people with COVID-19 at Galway’s public hospitals has remained steady over the Bank Holiday Weekend with a total of eight confirmed cases now in hospital in the county.

Six of the eight COVID-19 patients are at University Hospital Galway, while two are at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

Three quarters of the county’s hospitalised COVID cases are in intensive care units – five of the six confirmed cases at UHG are in ICU, while one of Portiuncula’s cases is in ICU.

There are six ICU beds available at Galway University Hospitals, and one at Portiuncula Hospital as of 8pm yesterday evening.

A total of 17 general beds are free at GUH, while Portiuncula has 18 available general beds.

Health officials reported a further 453 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, but no further deaths related to the disease.
