The number of people at University Hospital Galway who have tested positive for COVID-19 decreased further this week, with Friday’s figures showing a significant drop in the number of cases at the hospital.

HSE data taken on Friday evening at 8pm shows there were 25 confirmed COVID cases in the hospital. On Wednesday, there were 35 people with the virus receiving treatment at UHG.

Four of the 25 people at the hospital with COVID-19 are in the intensive care unit, as of Friday evening.

Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe saw a slight increase in cases this week, from three last week to nine on Friday, however none of the confirmed cases were receiving treatment in ICU.

Nationally the number of people with COVID in hospitals has remained steady at 576 cases.

Fifty-two of those were in intensive care units in 19 hospitals across the country on Friday.
