A road on the outskirts of Athenry will be closed for the next three weeks while Uisce Éireann is installing new wastewater ugrades in the area.

500m of new mains are being laid in the Raheen area, along with new service connections, to facilitate the construction of new housing in the area.

In order to facilitate this work Galway County Council has made an order closing the L3101 road between Raheen Woods Hotel and the Gort Mhaoilir junction until Friday November 13.

A signed diversion route will be in place for the period of the road closure. Traffic will be diverted via Ballydavid South, the L3105, and Gort Mhaoilir.

Sinead Kennedy, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, said: “These works will provide an improved wastewater service for homes and businesses in the Raheen area of Athenry.

“The sewer main extension and associated new connections will allow more customers to be connected to the public wastewater network, providing a more reliable wastewater service for customers while also safeguarding the local environment.”

“We want to thank the local community and road-users in advance for their understanding while works are underway,” Sinead continued.

“We appreciate that road closures can be an inconvenience but, in this case, it is essential to ensure that works are carried out as safely and efficiently as possible for our crews, road-users and the general public.”
