No COVID-19 patients at Galway hospitals today

There are no coronavirus patients receiving treatment at University Hospital Galway or Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe today, HSE data shows.

There are two suspected cases of COVID-19 at UHG, while at Portiuncula Hospital there is one suspected case.

The number of people in hospital with the disease nationally is 60, with Letterkenny University Hospital and Mater Hospital recording the highest number of patients with COVID.

At UHG, there is one intensive care unit bed and six general beds available, and there are two critical care beds available at Portiuncula.

Today marks 500 days since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Ireland.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said that we have “come a long way together on this difficult journey and sacrificed much in our collective effort to limit the transmission of this disease.”

“As we approach our 5 millionth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, we have great hope for our future,” he said.
