Further decrease in Covid cases in Galway hospitals and nationally

University Hospital Galway has the joint highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ireland today, but the number of people being treated for the disease in Galway declined further on Wednesday.

As of 8pm on Wednesday, there are 73 COVID cases at UHG and a further ten at Portiuncula Hopsital in Ballinasloe.

While the number of cases in Galway hospitals declined, the number of ICU patients increased from four on Tuesday to seven on Wednesday.

Four of those COVID cases are in ICU in Portiuncula, while UHG now has three patients receiving critical care as of Wednesday evening.

Nationally there are 881 people in hospitals with the virus – down from 906 on Tuesday evening.

A total of 93 confirmed cases are in intensive care units according to the HSE data taken on Wednesday evening.
